Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Hi all, please excuse me writing in English. I can speak Spanish and can read some but I dare not try to write it yet.
I just wanted to say that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has helped me a lot. It's pretty new and kind of an evolution of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). But where CBT asks us to change negative thoughts and feelings into positive ones, ACT says just notice them and accept them as just thoughts and feelings. ACT is based on our own values, mindfulness and something called Relational Frame Theory (RFT). There's a cool free RFT tutorial at the link in my signature. I've had Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) all my life it seems. I've tried medicines and CBT, but nothing really helped until I found ACT. Again I'm sorry about the English. Hopefully some of you can understand this and maybe someone very nice can translate some of it. Thanks and best of luck to everyone. http://www.contextualpsychology.org/act |
Hi just trying to get my signature to show up. Never mind, this is it:
Accept your reactions and be present Choose a valued direction Take action http://www.contextualpsychology.org/act |
Thanks Aysha, you did a great job translating. I'm from Miami. But I grew up in Chicago surrounded by Germans, Italians, Poles, Norwegians etc.

I read a little on the link you posted, and found something like
"numerous life problems such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, substance abuse, chronic pain, psychosis, eating problems, and weight management, just to name a few". I do not really believe in methods or therapies which are a remedy for all kind of pains (kind of "tiger oil"), I believe more in a specific treatment for each disorder (specially chronic pains!) , but if it is good for you... |
